Suilven
Cresting the col between Suilven's twin peaks. Suliven is an incredible mountain in a vast and wild emptiness and at 8 years old this was one of my first memories of the Scottish Highlands.
Bothy Nights
A snug bothy fire, with socks to dry and stories to tell. This sketch is based on many bothy memories rather than a particular place and attempts to re-create the cosy snug safety of a roaring fire while the rain drums off the roof above you
Trollbhal, Isle of Rum
We stayed at Dibidil Bothy and walked the Rum Cuillin on a glorious summer day. Trollbhal sits about half-way round, a wonderfully craggy peak covered in tufts of luxurious fresh green grass - thanks to the hundreds of manx shearwaters that nest nearby!
Five Sisters of Kintail
A bluebird winter's day, perfect for a spectacular meander over the Five Sisters of Kintail. We spent a glorious Hogmanay at Glen Licht House and walked out over the ridge under bright sunshine followed by a full moon.

Rydal

The Dripping Cave
Rydal Caves sit just above Rydal Water and are actually old slate quarries. I spent a lot of time as a child splashing about in the shallows of our favourite "dripping cave" and trying to spot the legendary wild goldfish
Lily Tarn
Nestled between the many summits of Loughrigg Fell and especially beautiful if you catch the lilies in flower
The Grot
A secret little viewing house in Rydal Hall Gardens - on the approach it blocks the view so your first glimpse of the waterfall is on opening the door
Stepping Stones
These famous stones cross the river Rothay just next to our cottage and I spent many happy childhood days scrambling across them (that sloping one 7th from shore was my personal nemesis!)
